This was a loooong week…

So, after the week I had, I felt it was time for another recap entry. Also, I realized I gave you 3 Congress related entries in a row and felt that I had redeem myself by proving that all my time is not spent watching Congress. Although that is a lot of fun for me.

Anyways, this week was absolutely insane. Monday night I met Chrissy for our usual Monday happy hour at Nooshi in NW DC. I frickin love this place. Their sushi is awesome (I especially like their spicy tuna roll, but I’m pretty much a sucker for a spicy tuna roll) and their happy hour special is 1/2 off any drink. You really can’t beat that. Chrissy refuses to get sushi, mainly because she dislikes fish. I’m determined, however, to at least get her to try a piece of the delicious salmon and cream cheese roll. It’s a good beginner sushi since it’s cooked fish and the flavors are familiar.

Wednesday actually saw me attending my very first auto show with Patrick. I was surprisingly interested given my knowledge of cars doesn’t really extend beyond color, presence of sunroof, number of cupholders, and number of doors. (I realize this is a very stereotypical girl thing. So sue me. =P) It was really neat to go with him because he works with one of the automakers so was able to explain things like how the new Chevy Volt works, which is seriously going to be the world’s coolest car when it comes out. After the show closed, we watched The Wrestler as a part of his continuing Oscar Watch. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the movie. It was not at all what I thought it would be and the performances by Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei were definitely top-notch.

Thursday and Friday, I decided to indulge my cultural side and went to see two plays. Thursday my friend Rob and I saw “The Heavens Are Hung in Black,” which was written specifically for the re-opening of Ford’s Theater and to commemorate the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth. The play was about the months in between the death of Lincoln’s son Willie and the Emancipation Proclamation. It was very thought-provoking. The playwright did a very good job of humanizing Lincoln and showing his internal struggles with his desire to hold the Union together and whether or not he should free the slaves.

Friday I took a chance on community theater and was well rewarded. I saw the Arlington Players production of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” Overall, I was blown away by the show. The cast was pretty phenomenal, and the production overall was top-notch. I’ve never really been to community theater before so my expectations weren’t that high but I’ll definitely be checking out more shows now.

I did have a definite “me moment” on the way to the show though. Chrissy and I were running late after an amazing dinner at Cheesetique in Del Ray (A-M-A-Z-I-N-G). It also turns out that, somehow, I had written down the completely wrong address and we ended up at the Arlington Community Center, 10 minutes away from TJ Middle School where we needed to be. So, after driving close to 60 in a 35 MPH zone (I hate being late — it stresses me out like you wouldn’t believe), we get to the middle school at 8:03, when the show started at 8. We take off running (me in 3″ heels) and find an open door. Walk in, realize we have no idea where we are because the open door we found put us in a random stairwell in the middle of the school. We take a guess and head down rather than up to see if we can find the auditorium. Ehhhh! Wrong. We go back upstairs, the door to the upstairs is locked. We find a map, locate the auditorium on the map, go back downstairs and head in the direction of the auditorium to see if we can find an open stairwell. We get to the end of the hall and realize we are now in the backstage area of the play. We realize this because a very nice woman who appeared to be babysitting 5 kids (who we found out later were in the play) showed us the open staircase but warned us that we would have to go back outside and around the building to get in since the show was going on and we couldn’t use the stage door. We finally took our seats at 8:13. Yeah, we rule.

  1. Thanks for breaking into my play. Dork.

  2. Totally didn’t break in. We paid, just after getting incredibly turned around due to my amazing sense of direction. =P But, yes, I am a dork. 🙂

  3. I have Sat. night story that totally trumps yours in “I am a ding-dong” value. It involves emergency personnel. Please feel free to read the recap in my blog. 🙂

  4. oh my god. i cannot believe i did not see this entry until now.

Carrie neglects to point out that she actually at one point in her frantic “OMG we’re late” state removed her three inch heels and ran barefoot across a way-oversalted sidewalk. 😛

By the way, I had NO clue that those 5 kids that woman was babysitting were iN the show, although i was somewhat disturbed that had we taken the wrong door, we would have walked backstage. 😛 thank god she warned us!!

P.S. I don’t think I am trying sushi, ever, but I still love you!
